When Lastolite came to make a film with us about food photography

I was introduced to Beth and Luke from Lastolite by my good friend Brian Worley. Brian had just finished shooting the entire range of Lastolite products for their new branding. They wanted to include some food photography to demonstrate various Lastolite products in use.

I was already a fan and used a number of Lastolite pieces as my regular kit, so I was made up when they asked to come and shoot a video while I produced the stills. When the day came we were pretty excited. Deb had planned a few nice dishes which we knew shot well without being too problematic from a food point of view. I didn’t have to bring much. Just my camera and ideas, after all, Beth and Luke were bringing all the modifiers and toys.

We took them through a number of setups, some of which we use regularly and others were new to us, just to shake it up a bit. After all, the whole point was to create setups to show off all the fancy Lastolite gear, quite a bit of which we don’t have. The whole time Luke was filming, kind of BTS style (Behind The Scenes), me, Deb and Beth just got cracking on.

It was great for me to try some of the gear I’d thought about buying, just like giving it a test drive. The LED’s were the most removed from how I usually work. The only constant light I use is natural light, which isn’t particularly constant at the best of times.

At the end of the day we had a whole bunch of still imagery and lots of video for Luke to get stuck into. The results of our labours are now on the Lastolite You Tube page. We were very pleased with how it turned out and Lastolite and Manfrotto liked it too.

I hope you enjoy the short film and please share the living daylights out of it.

See you back here very soon
