It’s the time of year for pumpkin soup
I hadn’t had the time to set up a full Halloween shoot with models, fake blood etc, etc. As it was just before Halloween 2014 and having plenty of pumpkin around, it seemed quite appropriate to have something warm and delicious in front of my camera, not to mention a whole lot less scary.
Freshly made pumpkin soup certainly met the criteria extremely well. Adding a drizzle of olive oil, some micro herbs and candied pumpkin seeds to top it off. This time of year in the UK, the light makes less of an appearance so it’s important that you can bring your own sunshine. I broke open the small flash set up I take on the road, it’s important, even essential, to know how to light in more challenging situations.
As I think it was David Bailey who said, “I like to use available light…. If it’s available, I’ll use it” I’m not quoting David exactly, but that’s how I approach my work.
Plate it up
Soups can be tricky to make look good. There are a few tried and true, see it just about everywhere techniques, but that’s just not how we roll here. Deb, of Wilde Orchard, added some beautiful micro herbs, candied pumpkin seeds and a drizzle of oil, this is how it would be plated to serve.
It looks amazing right? It tasted divine, just what you need as the weather takes a turn towards the chilly side.
That’s all from me today but stay tuned for so much more delicious food for photographic thought. Why not give it a try, the pumpkin soup recipe is over on Wilde Orchard.
