You don’t have much time, enough to shoot and run

Hi there. Are we all fabulous and happy? I hope so. Today’s quick post came about as I, literally, just shot some delicious goodies we purchased from The Madeleine Express in Trinity Kitchen, Leeds. I had a spare 30mins and wanted to shoot the baked deliciousness before eating one of them.

Often we think too much about our shoots, we get too caught up with lighting, props and whatnot. Sometimes all those things are required but don’t let it stop you putting together a quick set up and making a picture or two. I had my painted background to hand, laid it onto of a table, metered the light, added a reflector to lift the shadows and click, clickerty, click. Done!! If it turned out to be rubbish, I haven’t lost a thing, in fact I’d probably learn something.

I used the package the cake came in as a prop with the business logo, also the paper the morning cake was packed in, on another shot. I had the small cake stand sitting in the sideboard but I didn’t spend much time thinking about it. I popped the rosy chai tea cake on the stand and began to shoot, like it was melting ice-cream.

Having a couple of items easily accessible, like a background and your camera gear, can make a big difference. If it’s a chore you won’t shoot. You could miss out on some nice images you wouldn’t normally have made.
