Logo and business cards

Sometimes a simple logo is better than nothing at all

Welcome back, I hope you’re well. As you may have noticed, I’ve recently added a graphic or logo to my website. Let me share with you how it came about.

My website is still very new, I expect there’ll be many minor and some major changes over the coming months. When you’re in this process, it can be difficult not to get hung up over relatively simple things. I’m not saying branding isn’t important, but sometimes a good logo, as a starting point, is better than waiting for the perfect design.

I had a good look around and made a few phone calls but nothing was capturing my interest. The cost of designing a logo and buying a package isn’t cheap, it’s time consuming and requires a lot of skill, which you have to pay for. The pressure was on, as I needed to get some new business cards printed for an exciting, potential client base.

Give it a shot

I’ve had a bash at designing a logo before, with little success, but one more try can’t hurt. After all, I believe you’re only ever 1mm away from achievement. I gave myself 1/2 hour, in Photoshop, to see what I could come up with, this, as you will have seen on the site, is what I put together.

I used my Wacom Tablet and a Photoshop brush for the JT, so that’s totally unique, then chose a suitable font and colour for the rest. From this I took the JT to be used as a separate logo, perhaps as a watermark, I haven’t decided yet.

A huge thank you to my good mate, Brain Worley, for all his invaluable help on my website and for taking this logo, resizing and utilising it every which way you could want. Thanks to this my new business cards arrived today from Moo, and I think they look pretty good, better than I expected. Now for the important work of getting my cards in the hands of clients, helping them with stunning new imagery.

I’ll happily concede, I’m no graphic designer, my logo may not be cutting edge, but it’s me, for now, and that’s what I’m selling. The important thing is my focus can be 100% on my customer, where it should always be.

That’s all for today, thanks for stopping by, I really appreciate your visit.
